Last night at Thurrock Council a motion was tabled to congratulate Thurrock students for the fantastic job they are doing with their grades and to thank all the other people supporting their education, unfortunately the Conservative Group on Thurrock Council refused to support it.
Thurrock Independent Spokesman said: “It was disappointing that the Tory Group on Thurrock Council were unwilling to congratulate the students in our borough for their fantastic grades this summer.
“These students and teachers have achieved this despite all the adversity placed in their way. Since 2010 the Conservative Government has cut funding per pupil by 8%, teacher pay is down up to 15% and teacher moral is at an all time low.
“We call on the Government to properly support young people in Thurrock because social mobility is at an all time low, we need to make sure that opportunities are open to all children, not just those from wealthy backgrounds.”
